Tips for standardizing material- and trim-naming conventions.

Standardizing materials libraries is an important way to increase productivity and cut down on chaos, among other things.

If your material- and trim-naming conventions could be improved, Centric is here to help. Here are just three ideas. Read all five tips from Centric’s article in our Resources Library.

  • Use separate attributes rather than creating complex-compound fields. In many cases a material ID might have up to five fields to manage descriptive parts of the material (such as weight, main material, warp/weft thread counts, etc.). Be sure to break values into separate fields if they are important to track.
  • Use drop-down fields to ensure consistency. This will avoid confusion of different spellings and input errors that could make searching a challenge.
  • Utilize the power of your software to help enforce rules. For instance, you can use your software to double-check that the material blends add up to 100 percent.

This is just one of the many topics Centric covers in its best-practices resource library that covers coaching, tips, tricks and how-to’s for effective product development. If you are ready to learn more contact a Centric representative.
